Signs Your Exhaust Needs Attention
Exhaust problems are usually obvious. Watch for these signs:
- Your car is louder than usual. A hole or leak in the exhaust or muffler makes more noise.
- Rattling or banging from underneath. Broken hangers let the exhaust move around and hit the underside of the car.
- Smell of exhaust fumes inside the car. This is dangerous. A leak near the cabin lets fumes in. Get it fixed straight away.
- Hissing or popping noises. Leaks in the exhaust manifold or pipes cause these sounds.
- Loss of power or poor fuel economy. A blocked or damaged exhaust restricts flow and hurts performance.
- Rust or holes visible on the exhaust. If you can see damage, it needs fixing.
- Failed WOF on exhaust. Leaks, excessive noise or damaged components all cause WOF failures.
